Assessment

Q: What is your reaction to the text you just read/viewed?
A: I played Horse Master. It was very odd, not what I was expecting, but I think that's what made it so addictingly interesting. It set up the world by not explaining anything to you, but by throwing the player into it and asking them to make choices which you don't know the repercussions of. You keep asking yourself, is this really a horse? there's no way that this can be a horse. However you watch your stats rise and continue caring for the creature anyway, with the anticipation that something great or horrible will occur, but no idea what it could be. The mystery of it all drives it forward.

Q: What connections did you make with the story that you read? Discuss the elements of the work in which you were able to connect.
A: I immediately came into this story wanting to take care of a horse, otherwise why would I choose Horse Master, after all? So it was easy to connect with wanting to care for the thing, even when it was shown to be very much, NOT a horse. The story has been developing into something that affects the player as well as the horse. For example, the story goes on to describe how the player character's molars are loose and the food they eat tastes like burnt rubber tires. Very strange indeed, but I'm still intrigued to know what happens and why.

Q: What changes would you make to adapt this story to another medium? What medium would you use? What changes would you make?
A: I feel like this story would be extremely difficult to adapt into another medium. It banks on the fact that the player has no idea what's really going on. By showing the "horse" visually, the story's mystery would be greatly damaged. If this was to be adapted, I would choose a 2D animated short, something similar to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYOc-LqkrsE ("There's a man in the woods" by Jacob Streilein) or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j01Hg4QJ6NE ("Best Friend" by Nicholas Olivieri, Shen Yi, Juliana De Lucca, Varun NAir, and David Feliu). There would have to be great care put into hiding things from the audience and building a sense of mystery, suspense, and anticipation.

I played your adventure for your planet. I found it very interesting on how it was a matriarchy and sea based planet. I, for one, would love to live on this planet actually since I love seafood and enjoy how the planet's "chiefdoms" and society seemed to work, things like living together with friends and what not.

Obviously towards the end we were all pretty rushed, but I think you still did a pretty good job on the important points like asking the various friends questions about how they live, what they do, the movies, etc.
